CLAF Programme
Artist Talk: Stuart Pearson Wright

27 March 2025
Chao Lee Art Foundation is delighted to organise, in association with the Chinese University Hong Kong, an engaging artist talk conducted British artist Stuart Pearson Wright, for the students and alumni of the university.
Stuart Pearson Wright drew from an early age and after considering becoming an actor, finally opted for art school. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. During his time at the Slade, Pearson Wright won a travel award from the National Portrait Gallery as part of its 1998 BP Portrait Awards. He drove around Britain in a van, producing sketches and paintings as he went. The resulting exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery was called 'From Eastbourne to Edinburgh: A Painter's Odyssey'. In 2000 Pearson Wright won the BP Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, London.
Through this talk, participants will have the opportunity to explore how contemporary portraiture continues to evolve, and how artists like Pearson Wright balance tradition with experimentation. Attendees will also gain practical insights into the creative process, from concept development to the emotional and psychological layers behind the painted image.
This session offers a rare chance for aspiring artists and art appreciators alike to engage directly with one of Britain’s leading portraitists. Join us for an inspiring discussion on art, identity, and the enduring relevance of portrait painting today.
